End-of-Life Planning

End-of-Life Planning focuses on getting all of your affairs in order so that you have peace of mind in case of a possible serious accident, terminal illness or death.

Advance Care Planning and Paperwork

We will review your life values, create a health care directive and assign health care agents that can speak on your behalf if you can't anymore.

Facilitate End-of-Life Family Discussions

Talking about choices and wishes with family and loved ones can be difficult and emotional. I will provide you with conversation guides and can be a facilitator.

Death Logistics

Let me assist you in organizing important information and documents, plan for dependents, pets, and possessions, consider funeral arrangements and burial options. Your loved ones will thank you.

Connect with Community Resources

There are many great local resources for additional needs you might have, e.g. financial planning. I can provide you with a resource list and information.

Death Doula Services

Death Doula Services provides you and your loved ones with emotional and logistical support that meet your unique needs during the final months, weeks, days and hours of life to death.

Life Review

Together we reflect, remember and capture moments and experiences of your life. These can be big milestones, weddings, births of children, celebrations and very often it is also the simple memories, the everyday moments that make up a lifetime of stories.

Legacy Projects

Would you like to create something that has a meaningful and lasting impact on the world, your loved ones or your immediate surroundings? A legacy can include contributions, accomplishments, words, items, values, or memories that will outlive you and likely be part of the story and memories told about you for years to come. Small or large, I can support you in finding what feels right for you.

Care Management

Often the tasks of arranging doctor visits and care schedules is complex and overwhelming. Having the right support structure can help tremendously. I can assist with the coordination of care and healthcare teams to ease the burden on you and your family.

Vigil Planning

A vigil plan captures intentions and wishes that will best foster your emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being during the final days and hours. I can help you define the ideal space and surroundings that you desire for a peaceful transition.

Memorial Service and Funeral Planning

The logistical coordination for funeral arrangements, memorial service, celebration of life, and burial options can be hard to coordinate while grieving. A simple plan and expressing your thoughts about after death care will provide your loved ones with the opportunity to honor your final wishes.

Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)

If this is something you'd like to consider, I can provide information and resources regarding Medical Aid in Dying.

Death Doula Scope of Practice

(adopted from the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance Scope of Practice)

The Role of the End-of-Life Doula

  • The essence of doula care is to provide non-medical,  non-judgmental support and guidance to individuals and families through  times of critical, transformative life change.
  • EOL doulas nurture, inform, support, guide, empower and comfort.
  • EOL doulas work with other caregivers and members of the medical team.
  • Doulas  foster self-determination in their clients by assisting them in  gathering information and encouraging them to make informed choices that  are right for them.
  • For client needs outside of the doula’s  scope of practice, the doula makes referrals to appropriate  professionals and community resources.
  • Doula support is focused on, and adapted to, the unique needs and requirements of each family served.

Limitations to Practice

  • As non-medical care providers, end-of-life  doulas do not perform clinical tasks (e.g., monitor vital signs,  administer medication).
  • The doula refrains from giving medical advice or from persuading clients to follow a specific course of action or treatment.
  • The doula refrains from imposing his/her own values and beliefs on the client.
  • Doulas  do not undermine their clients’ confidence in their caregiver(s).  Instead, the doula uses good listening skills to support clients who  initiate a discussion about dissatisfaction with a caregiver's practice  or attitudes.
  • Doulas do not usurp  the role of other professionals and caregivers such as the hospice  nurse, social worker, chaplain, home health aide, etc.
  • Doulas may be present at the request of the client, but doulas do not facilitate the medical aid-in-dying process.
